Watch: SA policy reboot – How changes are reshaping public views

Krutham MD Peter Attard Montalto joins CNBC Africa’s Nastassia Arendse to discuss South Africa’s evolving political and economic landscape.

“We still don’t know what the GNU is. A key issue today, even with the clearing house committee, which is meant to resolve disputes within the GNU through negotiation and compromise, is that it’s unclear if it’s achieving that yet. We need to recognise that this process is dragging all parties out of their comfort zones, and there will need to be give and take on both sides. The ANC is not used to compromising externally and even internally; policy or leadership decisions have often taken years to resolve. So we are going through a process and we should expect plenty of drama and histrionics as different sides sound off against each other. Ultimately, we need a functioning resolution mechanism, one that outlines not only the logistics of how government works but also how policy decisions are made. It will be challenging, but it needs to be done,” says Peter Attard Montalto.
