The suspension of Ithala’s banking licence by the Financial Sector Conduct Authority has caused a stir in KwaZulu-Natal. King Misuzulu and the business community in the province have raised concerns over the suspended licence and its consequences for civilians. Ithala is not the first bank in South Africa to go down this route, raising questions about possible flaws in the business model of smaller banks.
