“We really are in uncharted territory, but we need to recognise that we’re having a reversion here, not towards a rules-based foreign policy, but rather a transactional one. I don’t really think Trump wants South Africa outside the global norm or wants to impose tariffs against them. Instead, he clearly wants something from South Africa and that’s an interesting thing to consider,” says Attard Montalto.
