Shamira is an economist with over ten years of work experience leading and contributing to economic research projects on the global South and various sub-Saharan African (SSA) countries.
Her expertise includes economic regulation and strategic planning, qualitative and quantitative market research and analysis, and economic development policy implementation and formulation on various growth enhancing industries, at a bilateral and multilateral level.
She has broad research proficiency on multiple industries, which she gained from working as a research executive at a global multinational market research firm, as a multi-industry trade and investment economist/advisor in the public sector, and as a senior economist at a think tank, where she led and contributed to multidimensional research projects that provided an evidence base on the socio-economic and sustainable development impact of the information and communications technology (ICT ) industry, data value creation, digitalisation, and frontier technologies (such as artificial intelligence ), in nascent SSA data ecosystems.
Shamira is an Australia Awards Africa Scholarship recipient and completed her Masters Degree in International and Development Economics from the Australian National University (ANU). She also has a BCom Honours in International Trade and Finance and a BCom in Economics and Econometrics, both from the University of Johannesburg (UJ).
